CNC Grippers: Spindle Grippers & Grabbers for Automated Part Loading

A CNC spindle gripper is an automated part-loading tool that seats in your machine spindle like a cutting tool, then picks, places, and flips parts with no operator standing by. Every gripper here mounts in a standard CAT40, BT40, BT30, or HSK holder and uses the machine's own motion to tend itself. Standard models grip parts up to 10 lb, high-force models up to 40 lb, and each one takes a single tool slot. Pricing starts at $1,379, ready to run on Haas, Fanuc, Brother, Doosan, Hurco, and DMG Mori.

The grippers we sell are all parallel grippers: two jaws that close in parallel to center and hold the part. Our pneumatic gripper models run on through-spindle air (TSA), and the matching TSC models run on through-spindle coolant instead. For flat parts with no edge to clamp, GimVac™ vacuum grippers hold by suction rather than jaws.

GripFlipGrip™ Workflow: How Spindle Grippers Automate Part Loading

1

Parallel Gripper Loads Part & AutoVise™ Clamps

Fully automatically using our automated program templates, the gripper grabs the component from the stock tray and loads it into the Op1 AutoVise™ where it's clamped and machined.

2

Spindle Gripper Flips & Re-Grips Part

The integrated QuickFlip180 leverages that remaining top hat on the stock. Automatically flips it over and then regrabs the component, getting it ready for automated Op2 machining.

3

Clamp & Machine Op2

After the part is flipped, the flipped component is automatically loaded into the OP2 vise soft jaw and then automatically machined, leaving a 100% complete, ready-to-use part.

4

Repeat for Lights-Out Production

This process automatically completes until you have an entire tray or magazine full of finished, ready-to-use components.

5

Load Stock into Part Loading Tray

Remove the finished, fully machined parts from the last run, and drop in your raw stock. Since there's no clamping and all the pins instantly align your stock, this step usually takes less than 5 seconds per part.

FAQ

A CNC spindle gripper is an automated part-handling tool that mounts in your machine spindle, just like a cutting tool. Instead of machining, it picks up raw stock, loads it into your workholding, and clears the finished part, with no operator on the cycle. That is how a spindle gripper runs lights-out machining: it automates the load and unload so the machine tends itself. Here is a fuller breakdown of how spindle grippers work.

Yes. Spindle gripper, spindle grabber, and CNC part grabber all name the same tool: a device in the spindle that grabs stock and loads the machine. Most of our models grab with mechanical jaws. The GimVac™ model grabs flat parts by vacuum instead. The word changes, the job does not.

A jaw gripper closes two opposing jaws on the part and grips it mechanically, which suits cylindrical, rectangular, or irregular shapes. A vacuum gripper like GimVac™ uses suction and suits thin, flat, or sealed-surface parts with no edge to clamp. Choose jaws for heavier or oddly shaped parts. Choose the vacuum grippers for plate, sheet, and disc work.

GimGripper™ CNC grippers run on most mills and lathes with through-spindle air (TSA) or through-spindle coolant (TSC). We offer models for CAT40, BT40, BT30, HSK, and other common tapers. For machines without TSA or TSC, the FloLink™ system adds an external air connection so the spindle gripper still works.

Standard GimGripper4™ models grip parts up to 10 lb, and High Force models grip up to 40 lb. Adjustable jaw plates cover a range of round and square sizes without custom fingers. GimVac3™ vacuum grippers handle parts up to 25 lb, depending on surface area and cup selection.

Yes, and it stays simple. Spindle grippers are called from the tool magazine with standard M-code and run their moves in ordinary G-code, the same as any tool. Pick-and-place motions are just coordinated moves to known positions. Our Programmer tool generates ready-to-use code for common single-operation jobs, and two-op templates come free.
